The Legend of Biluochun Tea from Dongting Mountains, Suzhou

Biluochun: Origin from Dongting Mountains

Biluochun tea is produced in East and West Dongting Mountains by Taihu Lake in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Its green young leaves are curly like snails, bright green and fluffy. This famous tea has a touching origin story, and a teapot is the best vessel to brew its fresh and delicate flavor.

Love and Disaster by Taihu Lake

Once upon a time, a beautiful and kind girl named Biluo lived on West Dongting Mountain, and a young fisherman named Axiang lived on East Dongting Mountain—they fell deeply in love. Disaster struck when a evil dragon appeared in Taihu Lake, threatening to take Biluo as his wife, or he would stir up storms and disturb the people. Axiang decided to fight the dragon to protect Biluo and the villagers.

Biluos Sacrifice for Love

Axiang fought the dragon underwater with a fish fork and finally killed it, but he fell into a coma due to severe bleeding. To save him, Biluo searched for herbs on the mountain and found a small tea tree with new buds. She warmed the buds with her body, picked them, dried them close to her chest, rubbed them gently, and brewed the tea in a teapot for Axiang to drink—his condition gradually improved.

The Inheritance of Biluochun

Axiang recovered soon, but Biluo grew weaker day by day, as her vitality had been infused into the tea leaves. She passed away in Axiangs arms with a sweet smile. Axiang buried her on Dongting Mountain, and the tea tree thrived, producing high-quality tea. To honor the kind girl, the villagers named this precious tea "Biluochun".
